Things to do in Austin, TX: June 2014

    June in Austin means outdoor concerts, funky 5Ks and family-friendly festivals. Now that the kids are out of school, check out all of the events Austin has to offer this summer.  Annual events such as ROT Biker Rally and the Keep Austin Weird Fest and 5K are some of the local favorites. Plus, there are plenty of things to do outside from Blues on the Green to Ballet Under the Stars.  Here are our picks for Austin’s best events to help you jump into the season with a splash.

    Kerrville Folk Festival | May 22-June 8 – Head to Kerrville for 2.5 weeks of folk music, camping, and seminars!

    Ballet Under the Stars | <May 30-May 31 – Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble takes the stage at Zilker Hillside Theater. Enjoy this outdoor dance show before it gets too hot outside.

    National Trails Day | June 7 – Join Austin Parks Foundation and the American Hiking Society as they Keep Austin Beautiful and clean up our trails.

    Austin Symphony Hartman Foundation Concerts in the Park | Sunday evenings in June – Head down to the Long Center to enjoy free Austin Symphony concerts on the lawn Sunday evening in June.

    Blues on the Green | June 11 & June 25 – Enjoy a different live band in Zilker Park every other Wednesday in June.

    First Thursday | June 5 – Shop, eat and drink on South Congress every first Thursday of the month. Many stores offer special sales and snacks for their customers at this family-friendly event.

    West End First Thursday | June 5 – Make the first Thursday of every month a night to spend at a gallery in the West End.

    ATX Television Festival | June 5-June 8 – All television lovers will enjoy the ATX Television Festival. Come out and meet the directors, actors, writers, creatives, and studio executives that brought your favorite shows to life.

    X Games Austin | June 5-June 8 – 3 full days of BMX, Moto X, and skateboarding competitions come to Austin for the first time ever. The event includes concerts by Kanye West, The Flaming Lips, Pretty Lights & more!

    Movies in the Park | June 6 – Come to Republic Square Park to watch classic summer blockbusters outdoors.

    National Donut Day | June 6 – This sweet holiday was originally created during WWI by the Salvation Army to celebrate the hardworking women who served donuts to soldiers.

    That 70’s Concert | June 6-June 7 – Come check out free concerts by the Austin Civic Orchestra in Zilker Park.

    Nerd Nite | June 11 – Enjoy a drink and a talk focusing on a different topic each month at The North Door in East Austin.

    Moonlight Margarita Run | June 12 – What could be better than following a 5K run around Lady Bird Lake with a Tex-Mex themed party and margaritas?

    The Republic of Texas Biker Rally | June 12-June 15 – Come out and help us beat our past Guinness World Record for the longest parade of motorcycles!

    East End Fourth Friday | June 27 – Enjoy a night of jazz and arts in the East End on the fourth Friday of every month.

    Keep Austin Weird Fest and 5K | June 28 – Keep Austin Weird and come to this 5K dressed in your kookiest costume.  Stay for a live music festival after the race!
